Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter Diagnosed with Dementia

Former President Carter remains under hospice care.

The Carter Center announced Tuesday that Rosalyn Carter, age 95, wife of former President Jimmy Carter, has been diagnosed with dementia. “She continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones,” the statement said.

“We recognize, as she did more than half a century ago, that stigma is often a barrier that keeps individuals and their families from seeking and getting much-needed support,” the center stated. “We hope sharing our family’s news will increase important conversations at kitchen tables and in doctor’s offices around the country.”

Former President Jimmy Carter, the oldest living former president at age 98, has been in hospice care since February.

The couple has been married since 1946.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the former first lady and family as they deal with the dementia diagnosis.
  • For Former President Carter and those attending him.
  • For all the families struggling with various stages of dementia in a loved one.
